Simon Schmidt: 1st Overall 5K (14:43)

“Celebrating The Year of the Dog with a win in the 5k! This race has great energy: thousands of people, firecrackers going off, drums beating, and races throughout the day. I had an issue with my registration and almost ended up not running at all, but managed to get a bib 20 minutes before the start. The course was a little short (about 2.95 miles instead of a 5k), but the hills might make up for the lost distance.”

Elizabeth Scott: 2nd Overall Female 10K (40:19)

“The course was a great challenge- running up to the top of Elysian park and on the rolling hills near Dodger stadium. It was a wonderful event and great day for Team Run with Us!”

Amanda Steffy: 2nd Overall Female 5K (17:53)

“I competed in the Chinatown Firecracker 5K this Sunday. I had run this race last year and warmed up on the old course, only to be surprised that the course had changed this year! It was hillier, but still very scenic and fortunately downhill in the second half. I tried to stay steady during the first half’s climbing, and then opened up on the downhills. It was great that the course looped back because other participants were very encouraging over the tougher parts of the last mile. The speed work I’d been doing with Armand paid off, as I was able to pick it up into the finish and run 17:53 (though the course was short). Overall a very fun race, and I’m looking forward to the coming weeks of track meets!”

Chloe Fata: 1st Overall Female 5K (17:36)

Jacques Sallberg: 2nd Overall 5K (15:31)

Andres De La Cruz: 3rd Overall 5K (15:39)
