Laura Wang
What year did you begin working at Run With Us?
2025
When & where did you go to high school? College? What did you study?
Arcadia High School, Class of ’86
California State University of Long Beach, B.A. in Art, Class of ’91
Yoga Alliance Certified YTT200 (2014)
Did you run in high school and/or college?
Only in P.E. classes, no teams. My natural strength was always sprinting short distances, though I wouldn’t discover my love for endurance until later.
When & how & why did you get in to the sport of running?
I began running competitively in 2009, and in 2011 I ran my first full marathon, thinking it would be a “one and done” bucket-list item. But the hunger grew, and in 2017 I set a new goal: to qualify for Boston and run it as my 50th birthday present to myself in 2018. That Boston experience sparked an even bigger dream: to complete the Abbott World Marathon Majors. Despite the challenge of deferrals during COVID, I’m proud to have finished all six within five years (excluding the two pandemic years).
Do you have a favorite moment that stands out in your running career? Any personal records we should know about?
Boston 2018. The weather was the worst in 30-year history, but I pushed through and ran my best finish time of all six Majors. That race tested everything in me and gave me a memory I’ll always treasure.
Any personal records we should know about?
Marathon PR: 3:34, set in 2017 while chasing a Boston Qualifier for my 50th birthday. I qualified with a 26-minute cushion.
In competition, what is or was your favorite distance?
The half marathon. It’s still tough, but training doesn’t consume your life the way a marathon does.
Road, Track, Trails, Treadmill, Couch?
Roads are my domain. Trails and I don’t get along (too many falls), the treadmill feels like punishment, and the couch is a well-deserved recovery tool.
What do you enjoy most about the sport or your own running?
Racing with friends: cheering each other on, sharing the experience, and celebrating the finish together.
Since working at Run With Us, what has been your favorite aspect of the job?
Helping people find the perfect shoe for their goals and sharing my love for running with the community.
What has been your favorite running shoe of all-time? What is your favorite shoe currently? Of all time?
For years, I was loyal to HOKA, training in the Bondi and setting my PR marathon time in the very first version of what later became the HOKA Mach. Recently, though, I’ve broadened my horizons and explored many different brands. These days, I don’t play favorites.
Do you have a favorite meal of all-time?
Japanese cuisine, especially premium raw fish, seafood, and A-5 Wagyu beef.
Outside of Run With Us & Running, do you have any other interests?
I was once an avid yogi prior to COVID, both teaching and practicing regularly. Now that I’ve retired from full marathons after completing the Abbott Majors, I’m excited to return to yoga and explore new movement through dance classes, which I’ve recently started and absolutely love.
